I ain’t afraid of no ghosts

Who’s ready for Halloween?

Our pumpkins are carved and the seeds are roasted. I bought a ton of candy, that I’m sure will last a total of 20 minutes after sitting unattended on our porch while we take the kids trick-or-treating around the neighborhood. The costumes have been hanging in the kids’ closets for weeks now, waiting patiently to be worn.

This household is ready for Halloween. We’ve been counting it down since Hayden had the idea in July to be Elvis. I didn’t buy a miniature, white, bedazzled, bellbottom jumpsuit or a pair of big, gold-rimmed glasses when he made his firm announcement. And it’s a good thing, because once he laid eyes on the goatee that came with the GI Joe costume in the Halloween Express catalog, the Elvis idea was nixed. Although this does reinforce my point about costume accessories that I noted in another Halloween article I wrote, Hayden has always had a thing for facial hair. I hope, for his sake, he can grow a beard when he’s older, but if it turns out that he can, I fear he’ll give those Duck Dynasty guys a run for their money.

So bring it on, Halloween. I have a Ghostbuster, GI Joe, and a Phantom of Darkness who are all well-prepared and eagerly anticipating everything you have in store tonight. Make it good.
